(Promo) Rock The Bells 2010

Check out the promo trailer for the Rock The Bells Tour 2010! Snoop, Wu-Tang, Rakim, BDP, and A Tribe Called Quest all in one tour! For any fan of Hip Hop, new or old, this is gonna be the ultimate rap show. Lauryn Hill’s last minute commitment doesn’t hurt either. I don’t know what the promoters are smoking, but if they don’t secure more dates or cities the copy cats are going to start promoting similar functions with not-so-stellar acts. The Hip Hop Nation needs to experience this before it gets watered down. At least ONE show below the Mason-Dixon Line…ATL, Miami? Midwest anyone? Hopefully the smoked out promoters will see the light.

Humor: Snoop Dogg A.D.I.D.A.S. Commercial

This is awesome. Snoop Dogg joins up with Daft Punk and David Beckham to promote A.D.I.D.A.S. original footwear. Only instead of a traditional commercial, its Hip-Hop meets Star Wars. Its not everyday you get to see Snoop with a lightsaber.

“Oh you want some? Step Up.”

(Album Art) Tha Dogg Pound “100 Ways”

The tracklisting looks like this will be a West Coast favorite. Ex-Death Row artists RBX and Lady of Rage reunite with Tha Pound for a couple of tracks, even though Snoop only appears on one. Soopafly and Butch Cassidy also make appearances on 100 Ways. Kurupt was always a lyricist, Daz always had tight beats. Without Dr. Dre production, without a strong presence from Snoop, and without a new-school buzz, can these West Coast rappers make any noise in the Dub Dime? A 2010 Dogg Food? Maybe not…. no release date yet, but we shall see….

(Interview) Pimpin’ Ken Influenced By Hip Hop

Money makin’ motivator Pimpin’ Ken sits down with ALLHIPHOP.COM and discusses influences and inspiration from, and by Hip Hop artists 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Pimp C, Ice-T, Too Short, and others. Has anyone heard this guy’s music? I didn’t even know he was an artist. Ken gives us some insight on the Player’s Ball and his relationship with Uncle Snoopy.  Check it out!

(Interview) Big Boi Breaks Down Freestyling

I applaud Big Boi for informing these rap cats that they aren’t freestyling. Like he said, you can’t have your homeboy doing your ad libs while you’re spitting. You can’t spit the same verse more than once when asked to kick a hot 16. Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and even Snoop Dogg are some of the last MC’s that still freestyle- the old school way. It would be cool if these rappers would just spit and not label the verse a “freestyle”. Its misrepresentation!

(Television) Ice Cube’s “Straight Outta L.A.” Premieres

The Ice Cube directed “Straight Outta L.A.” was everything I expected it to be. Interviews with rappers MC Ren, Snoop Dogg (I thought he was a Steelers fan), Ice-T, Chuck D, Kid from Kid-N-Play, (where was Dre?) and Cube himself provided a lot of background information for wanna-be Hip Hop heads. Former players, coaches, and affiliates of the team such as John Madden, Marcus Allen, the owner Al Davis, and others also gave  a real feel of what was really going on back then. Ice Cube presented the story of how N.W.A. was created, illustrated how the Hip Hop culture embraced the Raiders, and concurrently explained how changes in the music and the team came about. I never was a Raider fan, but the names, years, and incidences that were covered in the piece brought back so many memories of my early Hip Hop experiences. N.W.A. and another cassette in the tape deck, The 2 Live Crew, were some of the first pioneering  groups in rap to include profanity, abuse of women, and drug use in the music. (You gotta love it!) The love for the evolving culture was not for the things that were deemed wrong, but for the statement that the music made. It signaled a new generation of music making, with more changes yet to come. The West ruled the rap game from the late 80’s to the early 90’s, a time when I was just a young fan of Hip Hop, still excited about it, and still intrigued. Since they started letting everybody in, that feeling has become extinct. Thank you, Ice Cube, for taking me back about 20 years, and even though indirectly, paying homage to Hip Hop. Peace!

(Interview) Fat Joe Talks Hip Hop

Fat Joe discusses some big names in Hip Hop, past and present. Listening to Joey Crack speak, he sounds more like a fan of the culture than an artist. He even gives his thoughts on Jay-Z and 50 Cent in a seemingly unbiased manor. Check it out!
