BET decided to compose a list of their Top 10 Rappers of the 21st Century. I don’t know who’s list is worse, this one or MTV’s Hottest MC’s In The Game. Here’s how BET’s list went from top (#1) to bottom (#10): Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, 50 Cent, T.I., Ludacris, Drake, Young Jeezy, Jadakiss, Rick Ross. Really BET? They stated that the list was created based off of “flow, lyrics, subject matter, cultural impact, dough, and as needed in the arsenal of a 21st Century rapper –digital skills (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, their own website, etc.).” Ok so why is Jadakiss on the list? AND WHERE IS JAY-Z??? I know people will see this and freak out but I’m not even sure Drake should be on here. He’s the future of hip-hop but Drake has only has had about 2 years max in the game. Here’s my list, using BET’s criteria, and putting aside all of my personal preferences: 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Ludacris, T.I., Nelly, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy. Honorable Mentions: Drake, Fabolous, The Game. Let the debate being.
Every year the “brain trust” at MTV sits down and names the 10 Hottest MC’s in the game. Ludacris is a great artist but already MTV has screwed up this list. No disrespect to one of ATL’s finest but Bun B, Fabolous or Wiz Khalifa should be somewhere on the list, if not the 10 spot. First Bun B had Trill O.G. receive a “5 Mic” award from The Source Magazine which created a huge media buzz especially on the internet, and then you have Wiz Khalifa and Fabolous dropping two of the biggest mixtapes of the year (Kush & Orange Juice and There Is No Competition 2 respectively). To leave guys like this off the list, and if the rumors are true, put Waka Flaka Flame on the list, is insulting to what an MC is supposed to be. Check back as the list continues for more proof that MTV knows nothing about hip-hop, and possibly music in general.
Well it’s official Luda is back in the studio with the Neptunes. I’m hoping this one is better than Battle of the Sexes. I was kind of disappointed.
SN: Twitter has been booming lately with Kanye , Nicki Minaj and now Luda announcing album release information. Who would have thought 10 years ago that we would have this much access to what stars are doing besides from what we see on tv. The internet has really changed the game.
Shots Fired??? Wonder if Luda will respond??? Things might get interesting!!!!
AllHipHop.com: How much do Young Money artists bounce off each other? I noticed you have similar inflections and cadences or rhyme patterns. I noticed this one thing that Nicki said, “It’s going down. Basement.”
Drake: Well, that flow has been killed by so many rappers. And, I never want to use that flow again in life. [Laughs] I wanted to take if off my album, because I was like, “I shut ‘em down. Onyx.” I hate the fact that that rhyme is still in there. To be honest, that flow, you can trace it back to like…I trace it back to Big Sean (artist on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music). That’s the first guy I heard utilize that flow throughout the duration of a verse. I’ll give him that credit. I think Kanye got it from him. Me and Wayne found a dope way to do it. I don’t want to sound cocky, but the best way its been used was on “Forever.” Those lines just all individually make so much sense. They’re all punchlines. Then a bunch of rappers started doing it and using the most terrible references in the world. I don’t want to offend somebody…I hate that rappers picked that flow up. I wish they had left that for people that know how to use it. [They go like] “It’s a parade! MACY’S!”
This may be the video for the remix, but it looks like the same theme as the original “Beamer, Benz, or Bently” video. I guess Banks is a fan of the saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The remix features Luda, The-Dream, Yo Gotti, and Jadakiss.
Hot 97 radio personality Angie Martinez announced yesterday the lineup for this year’s Summer Jam. While singer Usher is the headliner, many Hip Hop artists like Drake, Ludacris, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, Rick Ross, and Juelz Santana are scheduled to appear for the anticipated event. Additional artists include Gucci Mane(?), Trey Songz, DJ Khaled, and Nicki Minaj. Who knows what surprise guests will be in the building, as the annual performance is notorious for having. Everything goes down June 6th.
