You can’t talk about Hip Hop with out mentioning Ms. Lauryn Hill. Lauryn has been blazing trails on the Rock The Bells Tour. At her performance in New York star power was definitely in the building. After performing Fugee-La Lauryn brings Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Chris Rock and Jay-Z on the stage.
It is definitely good to see L-Boogie back on the stage again. The older I get the more I understand why she only released one classic album and then basically disappeared from the scene. Lauryn Hill is definitely the greatest female to ever touch the mic. My only hopes is that she will get back in the studio.

Talk about a throwback, Onyx was first starting out with Bacdafucup when I was rocking Huggies. Now they’re coming back with a Jay-Z sample on their new track “Black Hoodie Rap.” Its a little overused but this might create enough buzz for the group to finally release The Black Rock, an album that was scheduled to drop in ‘07 but got shelved.

More footage of Jim Jones educating the youth has surfaced. I didn’t know that he was teaching a “Music Business” class and I’m wondering if the school he’s teaching at couldn’t find anyone else. I mean Jim Jones? A Music Business class? I can think of a few people that might have a few more credentials in this area. 50 Cent, Diddy, and Jay-Z are all New York area MC’s who have created empires stemming from their music careers. 50 made 100 million selling Vitamin Water, Diddy has…well Diddy has everything, Jay’s got the 40/40 chain, Roc Nation, Beyonce, the list goes on and on. I think that Brooklyn High could have gotten someone a lot better to teach these kids.

Cookin Soul is at it again. They decided to drop another summertime gem on us. After they did the Drake joint I wasn’t expecting anything for awhile. Cookin Soul has always been able to take a track and make it their own with live instruments. Check the Quincy Jones Summer Time In the City sample that the Pharcyde made famous on Passin Me By. For all you graphic designers out there this video is a visual masterpiece. The use of typography is amazing.
J. Cole meets up with DJ Semtex in London to discuss the album and chicken.
I love J Cole’s personality. “Yeah you know I’m black they wanna send me to get some chicken man. See how this works” Semtex heard the album and comparisons to “Illmatic with a bit of College Dropout. Still album name yet and Cole World is not the title. Atleast we have an official release date October 26th.
