Maino went on tour with A. Keys in 2008 and now they have finally collaborated on a track that is rumored to be on Maino’s sophomore album The Day After Tomorrow. Check it out.
Bone has enjoyed a loyal fan base for years. Although I wasn’t a big fan of the group in high school, you were looking for a fight if you said anything negative about the Cleveland natives. Yes, they were the hottest thing since grilled cheese in the mid 90’s, being initiated in the game by gangsta rap pioneer, Eazy-E. That boost alone helped to shoot theseĀ young men into super-stardom, selling millions of records. Check out these 12 minutes of footage shot around NYC as the group minus one answers questions about the start of their career, the business, and the music.
Did Shawna know about this? Luda enlists Eve, Lil Kim, Trina, and newcomer Nicki Minaj on his “Battle Of The Sexes” with the intent of giving female MC’s more of a spotlight. Luda reveals his concept for the album: “I got records talking about women, talking to women, and records where the women are talking back to me!” Don’t you just love concept albums? Would have been cool for Luda to snatch an old school name like MC Lyte.

With classic tales of friendships gone sour, neither MC on this track takes it lightly. I wonder how this collabo came about. These three lyricists all have experience in the areas of contract disputes, beef within the label, and reunions. Check it out.
One of my personal favorites off of ‘Aquemini’. With help from “The Ruler” a.k.a. Slick Rick, this track illustrated what storytelling was all about. Rick was a nice touch to the song, being one of the best storytellers of all time. Dre’ 3000’s verse was one of his most memorable, being both sad and uplifting. I must say, this was also one of their best videos. The puppets, 3000’s choice of wardrobe, and the concept all combined for a potent product. Rappers don’t make much music with long shelf-life anymore.

Check out Lupe’s interview with TheAge.com. Very interesting article. Among other things Lupe climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of the world’s lack of drinking water Check out this except from his interview.
Critics touted Lupe as being on par with Kanye, Jay-Z, Talib or the Roots. Many astute hip-hop observers called it a modern classic. By now, then, he should be a star. In 2007, with the crossover smash single Superstar, he even had a genuine hit single on pop radio. Yet, for a number of reasons, many of his own doing, he is not. ”There’s a misunderstanding with my fanbase,” he says. ”People [at Warner] feel they know my fans more than I do. They want me to step out of my comfort zone and step into theirs. I don’t have necessarily the celebrity success they want me to have but it’s more social success and being able to speak at a college about world affairs. That’s a success, to me.
