Timothy Mosley aka Timbaland has officially been in the game since 1996 and has worked with every artist in the game from Jay-Z to Nelly Furtado. He has also been quoted as saying that hip hop doesn’t inspire him anymore so it is great to see him still doing his thing in the game of hip hop. Shock Value II is a step up from its predecessor. Timabaland enlisted everyone from Keri Hilson to Brandy to Miley Cyrus to the new Hip Hop sensation Drake.
At first listen you believe that this is a normal Timbaland production but it is far from it. Let’s call Shock Value II, alternative with a HipHop twist. Timbaland is reunited with Nelly Furtado on the uptempo track Morning After Dark. On this track he borrows the singing style of Boosty Collins on the hook. Shock Value 3 will definitely touch the alternative side in you.
Overall: With a host of guest appearances it makes you wonder if “Timbo the King “believes he can carry an album by himself. Also, his right-hand man (woman) Missy Elliot is missing. Shock Value 2 starts off with a bang and kind of ends with a fizzle for HipHop fans. If you’re a fan of Timbaland, Shock Value 2 is an eclectic mix of Alternative, Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B.
Standout track- Meet in the middle feat. Brand Nu- This is Timbaland at his finest. Catchy hook hot beat it gets no better. For those that don’t know Brand Nu is Brandy. You know Moesha! I ain’t mad at ya Brand Nu you delivered a very impressive verse. This should definitely be a single contender.
Quotable: Say Something - feat. Drake – “But I’m addicted to this life it’s going to be hard to quit. Yeah just ask me how things are coming along you can tell me that you never heard none of my songs long as you end up saying one day you plan to listen what’s a star when his most important fan is missing?”- Drake. Lyricism at it’s finest.
