ICE CUBE: Doughboy Done Came Up!

Ice Cube

Ice Cube, legendary rapper and former member of the groundbreaking group ‘N.W.A.’, was honored by B.E.T. with the ‘I AM HIP HOP’ award this weekend. Cube is part of an elite group that has had a taste of success in music and film, masterminding classic albums and unforgettable movies. I’m sure the stoner flick “Friday” and its two sequels are some of everyones’ favorite comedies. Known to have written most of N.W.A’s material in the late 80’s, Ice Cube left his mark on the gangsta rap scene, as well as politically conscious Hip Hop early before there were any Snoop Doggs, Biggies, or Trick Daddies. Long before there were trap, snap, and swag rappers Cube set a trend to be one of the realest MC’s to ever touch a mic. He was one of the first well known rappers to appear in a film that wasn’t pertaining to music.  His influence and impact on the game is immeasurable. Cube was cut from the same cloth as legends such as Eazy E, Dr. Dre, Snoop, and the commercially successful 2Pac. Having over 20 years in the game under his belt, Cube released his 7th and 8th solo album in ‘06 and ‘08, showing the world that the Hollywood money hasn’t changed this South Central-born rapper’s love for the music. Cube’s Hip Hop influence expands further than music and film. A contributor to over 10 classic albums, over 20 films, and countless rappers to whom he influenced, Ice Cube is definitely one of the best ever. One of the most consistent, most talented figures in the entertainment industry, Cube shows no signs of slowing down. Big up to B.E.T. for honoring this living legend.

“We gotta do what we feel. We can’t be slaves to video programmers, labels, or networks. To the veterans, don’t let yourself be pushed out… If you have a tongue, you’re not too old to rap.” ~ Ice Cube
